On state-of-the-art radiation monitoring systems at workshop Radiation Safety and Environmental Protection in Nuclear Industry

08.08.2022

SPC Doza took part in an annual industry scientific and practical workshop Radiation Safety and Environmental Protection in Nuclear Industry held in Murmansk from 1 to 5 of August. The annual workshop organizers are Rosatom State Corporation and Research Institute of Environmental Problems (NIIPE).

The workshop addressed environmental policy issues of SC Rosatom, radiation safety and security state in companies that are part of the State Corporation, improvement issues of radiation standard setting and monitoring system at radiation-hazardous facilities. The scientific and practical workshop is a discussion platform for environmentalists and specialists of radiation safety services in the industry, where the past-year results are summed up, current-year plans are determined, best practice implementation decisions are taken.

Within the business program frame of workshop Design Department Deputy Head of SPC Doza, Vadim Khmelevsky, presented a report State-of-the-art Environmental Radiation Monitoring Systems. He spoke about Environmental Radiation Monitoring Systems (ERMS) of SPC Dozas production. The systems are designed for continuous environmental radiation and meteorological monitoring in the sanitary protection area and the supervised area of NPP in all operating modes of NPP, including design basic and extension accidents, as well as for predicting the environmental impact of increased gas and aerosol effluents of NPP with the use of mathematical models of atmospheric radionuclide transfer under specific meteorological conditions in NPP area. To minimize populations radiation exposure, ERMS ensures reliable environmental radiation information in NPP area for the decision-making persons in case of radiation accidents at NPP. ERMS provides a technical opportunity of output via its channels of NPP data communication network to the unified national environmental radiation monitoring system.

The Environmental Radiation Monitoring Systems developed by SPC Doza have been delivered to eight NPPs of Russia, RosRAO FSUE, 90 gamma radiation monitoring stations of SC Rosatom, Tech and Emergency Response Centre of the Ministry of Atomic Energy of Russia in St. Petersburg, RF Civil Defense and Emergency Situations, RFNC VNIIEF FSUE, Ministry of Natural Resources of Krasnoyarsk territory, Rosatom Tech and Emergency Response Centre, JINR of Dubna and many others. In 2022-2023 ERMS is to be supplied for Akkuyu NPP, Turkey and Rooppur NPP, Bangladesh.
